Glencairn Highlights
Welcome back, Glencairn Students and Families!
We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and that you are excited
to begin another school year. The staff has been busy getting the school and classrooms ready for your return on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026 at 9:05 am
For our returning students – welcome back! To our new families joining us for the first time, welcome to the neighbourhood.
On the first day of school, all teachers (Grades 1-6) will be on the tarmac and field behind the school with a sign indicating their name and class number. We will have staff members available to assist students who are unfamiliar with their teacher. Staff will be easily identifiable by their orange supervision vests.
All of our Kindergarten students will meet with their teachers near Exit 7. Please take your child to this area for a person-to-person handoff.
Students arriving by bus or school-purpose taxi will be met by staff upon arrival and assisted in finding their teacher and class. Students will be supported at the end of the day to meet their school transportation.
The Extended Day Program will be open from 7:00 am before school and until 6:00pm after school for registered participants. Families that drive to drop off or pick up their children should park across the street in the church parking lot. Enter the school at the doors on the right side of the building off the bus loop and meet with the Extended Day staff to sign your child in or out. Students attending the Extended Day program will be assisted in transitioning to and from their classroom.
Please note our “Meet the Staff” event will be on Wednesday, September 9 from 6 pm – 7 pm.
| Finding Your Child’s Class on School Day |
If you are a parent or caregiver using School Day (https://www.school-day.com/), you can view classroom information by logging in on Monday, September 7. Please log in and follow the steps below to access the information.
If you do not use School Day, you can find a staff member in the yard on the first day of school, and they will help you determine your child’s classroom location.
When you log into your account, click “Schools and Groups” on the blue left-hand side menu, then click “Your Classes.” This will show the classes and groups your child is linked to within our school. Homeroom names are in the form of grade, then section, such as 1A, or 5/6B. Viewing Classroom Assignments on School-Day (Starting September 7, 2026).
As a staff, we devote considerable time and careful consideration to determine the best placement for each child. There are many factors we consider when building classes each year.
We consider each student’s academic needs and social dynamics. We always strive to ensure that your child’s placement best serves their learning needs. We always strive to have students placed with at least one friend. These are the guiding principles in forming our combined grade classes as well. Now that class lists are finalized, changes will not be made unless directed by the Board due to unexpected enrollment shifts. Moving even one student can create a domino effect, impacting friendships, classroom balance, and other placements. We recognize that change can be difficult, but children are incredibly resilient and adapt quickly. Your support and encouragement help set a positive tone for your child’s transition and success. Please be confident in your child’s teacher. Remember that kids take their cues from the reactions of the most important adults – their parents.
Our staff members are excellent educators who meet the needs of our diverse learners each day. Your child will be successful with any of our teachers, and our staff members will take the time to get to know your child and their learning strengths and challenges throughout the year. We encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher at any point throughout the year.
Please know that our staff are here to help every step of the way. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
