A Message from Ms. Elmslie!

Dear Glencairn Community,

Wow! What a great finish to the first full week of school!

Thank you to our Glencairn community for joining us at our “Meet the Team” evening on Wednesday! It was a great event. It was wonderful to welcome new and familiar faces to the school. The students were very excited and proud to show off their school home to their families!

Onto some student news! On Wednesday and Thursday, Mr. Whitson’s 5/6 class and Ms. Brown’s grade 6 class visited the Outdoor and Environmental Education Centre in Heidelberg to participate in a biodiversity study. The focus of the learning was on invertebrate life and included the collection, observation and classification of invertebrates. My new learning is that an invertebrate is an animal without a backbone! Who knew?

Ms. Bird, Ms. Town and Ms. Seifried held an information meeting about the Fall running club this week! This club is open to all grade one to six students who would like to run on day 5’s together along with their teacher coaches. Have your student connect with one of the teacher coaches if they missed the first meeting and would like to participate-there is always room for one more!

Also, Ms. Brown has been busy with her grade 6 leadership team meetings and supporting the ‘announcement crew’ who deliver our morning announcements each day. We might hear some of these students on radio airwaves in the future!

Thank you to those who were able to bring in a “Toonie for Terry” today to support our fundraising efforts for cancer research in Terry’s name today. The students enjoyed walking or running our Glencairn ‘Terry Track’ this afternoon. Thank you to Mr. Ottogalli for his organization and leadership with this event for students and staff.

Please note the following upcoming dates and related events:
