The safety of your children is very important to us.  Glencairn  P.S. practices the Safe Arrival Program with the support of the community. We will work with you to ensure that if your child is not at school, we know where he/she is.

Your responsibilities are:

  • When your child will not be at school because of illness or for other reasons, you must notify the school by phoning our Safe Arrival Number: 519-742-0849 press 1 or email gcp-attendance@wrdsb.ca

You must call this number before school begins for the day.  This number is available to take calls 24 hours a day.  On the answering machine, state the child’s name, date, class, and the reason for the absence.  Please call the safe arrival number and not the teacher’s extension.  The teachers check their messages at different times of the day and many times they do not get the attendance message until well past the attendance time. Also please do not rely on notes in the planner to inform us of student absences.  The only way to inform us about student lates and absences is via the student attendance line.  This ensures that the office gets your message in a timely manner.

  • You must inform the school, by phone or email, each day your child is absent, or give us an expected date of return.
  • You need to make sure that the phone numbers we have for you at home, work and for your emergency contact are up-to-date.
  • If you are removing your child from school for more than 5 days, for a reason other than illness, you must inform the office and fill out the necessary forms.

Our responsibility in the Safe Arrival Program is:

We will telephone you if your son/daughter is not at school and we have not received a telephone call from you. Our secretary will contact you or your emergency contact (in that order) as soon as possible at the telephone numbers listed by you for this purpose.

Please call the school if you have any questions about this program.
