A Message from Ms. Elmslie!
Dear Glencairn Community,
Our caring students and educators raised $528 for The Terry Fox Foundation last week, bringing in ‘Toonies for Terry’ as we all participated in our walk/run for cancer research last Friday. Way to go team!
Wednesday Glencairn’s School Council met in the school library (and also virtually for those who prefer to attend from another location). The September minutes of the School Council meeting will be posted on our school website after they are approved at our October 2024 School Council meeting. Feel free to view previous minutes from other Glencairn School Council meetings on our Glencairn school website. The next School Council meeting will occur on Wednesday October 9, 2024 beginning at 6:00 pm in the Glencairn School library, or via the virtual link that will be sent out with the agenda, one week in advance of the meeting. Please consider joining us!
Today was our first Grey Jay Spirit Day of the year! Our school community was invited to wear our school colours of Grey, White, Teal or Black and continue to show their Grey Jay spirit by acting in a caring and respectful manner and to always try to persevere: “We are a caring, respectful team that never gives up!” Thank you to Ms. Brown and the grade 6 Leadership Team for organizing and hosting our Grey Jay Spirit Day assembly today. It was so nice to come together as a Grey Jay team! Stay tuned for information about the Food Drive the Leadership Team is organizing to benefit food4Kids. Here is the list of the most requested food items.
If you have availability on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 8:15 am you might be interested in joining Glencairn’s Safe, Caring and Inclusive School (SCIS) Team! This school team is a Ministry of Education mandated team that makes efforts to promote and maintain positive school culture. We would love to have you share your voice and your skills with us! Please connect with Ms. Elmslie if you are interested and available!
Next week to learn more about the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2024, Ms. Elmslie will be reading the following books to the students at Glencairn: With Our Orange Hearts by Phyllis Webstad (Early Years and Grade 1 classes); and. I Lost My Talk by Rita Joe and the companion book and poem I’m Finding My Talk by Rebecca Thomas for grades 2 to 6. Please ask your child about what their commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous People is moving forward!
Please enjoy the weekend when it arrives!
