A Message from Ms. Elmslie!
Dear Glencairn Community,
What a cold week we have had! As always, the health and safety of our Glencairn students is our priority. You will have noticed this week that on extremely cold days, students entered the school on their arrival and nutrition breaks were spent indoors as well on the coldest days.
When the “wind chill” factor is approximately between -20º C and -27º C, we consider moving to a shortened, or cancelled outdoor break, ensuring it is safe to send students outside even for short periods of time. In the mornings, we encourage students to come to school as close to the bell (9:05 am) as possible in order to shorten their time outdoors. (We are only able to allow students into the school beginning at 8:55 am when there is teacher supervision.) When the temperatures drop, we will bring them in early as needed as we did this week.
With the extremely cold conditions, we remind families to send students in warm and waterproof clothing. Winter jackets, scarves, boots, snow pants, hats and warm mitts are a good idea to keep everyone warm and safe!
We are really looking forward to the second annual School Council book sale on Friday January 31, 2025. There will be opportunities for students to purchase books during the day and families will be welcomed in the afternoon (until 4:30 pm) to also visit with their children. There will be a large variety of reading materials available, including items for adult readers. Books and magazines for children will be $1 and adult books will be $3. Donations to our School Council fundraiser are also most welcome!
