A message from Ms. Elmslie!

We have enjoyed a short, but successful, week here at Glencairn. Students and staff adjusted very well to the fall reorganization with some of us in new classes with new friends. All families would have received a communication from their child’s teacher, new or the same, last week.

Celebrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning at Glencairn this week! In mathematics, K3 learners have been working on identifying shapes and coming up with their own sorting rules. 1A has been working on skip counting backwards and doing it very well!  In grade 4A students are beginning a patterning learning cycle. In grade 6, students are working hard to clearly communicate their mathematical thinking which is an important skill for all mathematics learning through all strands of mathematics. In science and technology, grade 3’s in 3A are having a great time in their small groups building their tower structures out of straws or popsicles sticks. Grade 3’s and 4’s in C1 are proud of building their own Success Boxes to celebrate accomplishments they feel proud of at school. Grade 5s in 4/5A are creating unique energy transformation devices to display their knowledge of the different forms of energy. So much engaging STEM learning happening in all divisions at Glencairn! Please ask your learner about what STEM activities and learning opportunities they have enjoyed this past week.

In extracurriculars this week Running Club coached by Ms. Town, Ms. Seifreid and Ms. Bird has 45 runners from the primary and junior divisions as members! Everyone has increased their number of laps over the last 6 weeks and some runners run 3 kilometers in the 20 minutes they are outside. Great job, Grey Jays!. Intramurals also started this week under the leadership of Madelle Cable, Ms. Brown and Ms. Gillespie. There was a match between the ‘Glorious Goblin Sharks’ and the ‘Winning Wolffish’ on Thursday. The athletes are students, but so are the referees and sports reporters!

Glencairn is a great place to learn AND have fun!
