A Message from Ms. Elmslie!

Dear Glencairn Community,

What a caring community we have at Glencairn! Today’s school assembly focused on the ‘caring’ part of our school motto: ‘We are a caring, respectful team that never gives up’! Ask your student what it means to ‘fill a bucket’ and how everyone has their own bucket. Each class at Glencairn will have an opportunity to offer ideas and fill their own class bucket. Great job leadership team for this exceptional assembly!

Ms. Gillespie successfully applied for a ‘Music in the Schools’ grant and received over $300 to purchase 85 recorders for students in 4A (Madelle Cable) and 4/5A (Mr. Ottogalli). We are very grateful to the Waterloo County Teachers Choir for their support of our budding musicians.

Some of our youngest learners in K3 under the guidance of Ms. McNabb, Ms. Shier and Ms. Delvecchio, worked hard on a class created Land Acknowledgement. A combined Land Acknowledgement and Territorial Acknowledgement recognizes the land on which we live as bountiful and sustaining while also acknowledging the traditional territory of the Indigenous peoples who came before settlers to Canada. It is tremendous learning for our students as well as an act of active reconciliation. Like all schools in the Waterloo Region District School Board, we listen to a Territorial Acknowledgement on our morning announcements sometimes in English, sometimes in French. (Thank you to Madelle Cable and the grade 6 students for the French Glencairn student version!)
